Letting Go In Order To Find Balance

For various reasons it seems we tend to like to hold onto things. At the very extreme, we can become hoarders and evaluate our self-worth on the amount of “things” we have. Whether it is piles of material possessions in our house or negative memories that don’t serve us anymore, letting go is not always as easy as we think. I assure you though, letting go is sometimes very necessary for optimal physical and mental health.

Take Inventory

At certain points in life it is important to sit down with yourself and take inventory of your life. Think about what you spend your time doing and what your thought life is like. Make a list of the positive things, as well as the negative. Do you have baggage that you are carrying around? Are negative thoughts, people, or memories weighing on you? What can you let go in order to feel lighter?

Finding balance in life is important. We have so many responsibilities with work, kids, chores, and more, so it is important to take inventory of where you are with all of that and create balance in all areas. When your life is balanced, you will experience less stress and feel lighter, happier, and have more energy.

Let Go Of Bad Habits

We are habitual people. We find comfort in routine and this can be a good thing, but it can also be negative. As you gauge your life, note any bad habits that you have and make a commitment to break them. Replace them with positive habits. Are you in the habit of eating an abundance of junk food daily? Let the junk go and commit to eating healthier food. Are you associating with a person who continually brings you down? Let that person go and surround yourself with positive people. Are you allowing negative thoughts to control your mind? Let those negative thoughts go and begin reciting positive affirmations daily. Bad habits can be broken with commitment and intention.

Change Is Good

We tend to make letting go of negativity more difficult than it has to be. It all boils down to a decision and recognizing that change is good. If you want to grow in mind, body, and spirit, it is necessary to let go of things that no longer serve you and embrace things that propel you forward and inspire you.
