How to Decrease Stress and Get Happy

I don’t know many people who don’t love to simply sit down and relax. How people relax differs from person to person. What provides relief from stress for one person may not always work out for another.
For instance, some people relax by listening to a certain type of classical music, but this can have an opposite and irritating effect on another. Sipping coffee can be very relaxing for one person, while it might just make another more nervous or jittery. Find out what works for you best among the techniques given below.

Use Yoga to Relax

Many people have derived a great degree of calmness and a positive outlook in life by practicing daily yoga. Yoga involves various different physical poses and helps to keep the mind and body in harmony with each other. There are also several breathing exercises and stretching exercises, which can be of great benefit to the body and the mind and make you happy throughout the day.

Become one with nature

Nature can bring about a very soothing effect on your nerves and create a feeling of fulfilment and happiness in your life. This can provide instant relaxation and happiness to most people. The sound of water can also bring you a lot of peace and tranquillity  You can watch the scenery and the sky and listen to the birds and the butterflies. Feel the smell of the flowers and allow your mind to fully immerse in the beauty of Mother Nature.

Stay in Control of your Spending

It is easy to get caught up in the pressure of the rat race and to extend yourself by maxing out credit cards and borrowing to give others in our social group the appearance of outward success. This route will not lead to happiness or peace – that needs to come from within. Before making big purchasing decisions like buying a car or a house it is important to be realistic and to ask yourself if you are buying within your means. How much house can I afford? is an important question when making that big purchase decision – do you really need to put huge pressure on yourself and your monthly pay cheque to impress some friends? The same is true when buying a car – don’t trade improved status with your peers for stress or longer working house: the road to happiness lies elsewhere.

Listening to music

Music has been recognized and accepted by many to provide the most soothing effect on the mind. In fact, it has been scientifically proven to be a great stress buster and a great way to relax at the end of the day, or almost at any other time. You can listen to music even while you are working, such as cooking, gardening, driving to work and so on. You will find all the tension ebbing away from you within minutes.

Go On Vacation

This is an obvious choice, but you may not be able to do it all the time. Take time off from your regular work every few months and enjoy the luxury of a relaxing resort with bed and breakfast. Experts tell us that those who take time for regular vacations throughout the year experience less stress in general life. Vacations are important for the balance of life and work.

The Beach

Going to the beach on weekends and whenever you can is a wonderful way of getting comfort and happiness. The sound and smell of the ocean and the sand can bring about a calming effect on the mind. If you live near a beach, this could be the ideal solution. You can even go to a nearby river, pond or lake to get this healing power of the water. Ireland has some of the world’s most beautiful beaches so there’s no excuse not to find one near you. Even from the centre of our small island, the beach is at most around an hour’s drive.
Life is too short to worry and stress all the time, so try some of these stress busters and live life relaxed and happy.
