How to Create Balance Between Work and Life

Creating balance between work and life outside of work can be a challenge for some people, but it is possible. Many hours are spent at work through the week and a majority of people complain that they have too much work to do and not enough time to enjoy their lives outside the job. Here are some wonderful tips for balancing work and off-time.

Talk to your manager about a flexible schedule.

You may be in a work situation in which you could utilize a flexible work schedule to your benefit. For example, if you children are in school from 8 to 4 perhaps and your hours are 10 to 6, perhaps you could get your hours changed to 8 to 4 to match your children’s schedule. This way you would get off work sooner, plus you would have more time with your family after work hours. You may also be able to do some of your work from home, so be sure to discuss this with your manager as well.

Cut down on hours at work.

If you are stressed to the max because of the many hours that you are working, consider cutting down hours per week. Work can be a wonderful thing, but if you are working so many hours that you are miserable and exhausted when you are away from work, then you really ought to consider decreasing the amount if possible.

Manage your time.

Managing work and life balance requires the ability to manage your time. If you are a procrastinator, your balance may be off because procrastinating not only causes stress but it causes disorganization as well. It is a good idea to make lists and also use a calendar to organize your to-do lists so that you can experience more balance in your life.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

We all know that when we get home from work, “work” is not over. The laundry needs done, dinner needs cooked, chores need done, the kids need care, and the yard needs mowed. Of course it is wise to take care of these things regularly, but keep in mind not to sweat the small stuff. It’s all right if the laundry has to wait another day or the yard waits till the weekend. Learn to let the less important things go so you can have more leisure time at home and enjoy more life balance.

Set priorities.

To feel more balanced in life, create lists and set priorities. Put the most important things on top, such as work and family time, and the least important things toward the bottom, like organizing the garage or cleaning out the attic. This helps to keep your work and home life balanced and it also feels great to cross things off the list!

Try out these balance tips so that you can experience less stress and more peace and fulfillment in your life. You will be pleasantly surprised at how well you will feel!
